AFC Telford United v Alfreton Town

AFC Telford United v Alfreton Town

Thursday Nov 16, 2017

Alfreton Town make the trip to the New Bucks Head this Saturday looking to arrest their slump in form after the disappointing 3-2 setback at FC United of Manchester last Tuesday evening.

Telford currently sit in 14th place in the Vanarama National League North table, two points above the Reds having played a game fewer.

Their playing record to date is Played 17, Won 7, Drawn 1, Lost 9, Points 22.

Their last outing saw them also defeated at FC United of Manchester going down 3-1 after taking a three minute lead through Henry Cowans. Before that they lost 1-0 at Hereford United in the First Round of the FA Cup, their last home encounter seeing a 1-1 draw with Southport.

Their team at Broadhurst Park was: Jasbir Singh, Aaron Simpson, Ryan Wilson, Connor Johnson, Shane Sutton (C) Henry Cowans, Jordan Murphy, Jordan Lussey, Marcus Dinanga, Max Leonared, Elliott Newby.

Subs: Aaron Hayden, Louis McGrory, Anthony Dwyer, Matthew Barnes-Homer, Sheridan Martinez.

The Reds head into the fixture off the back of four league defeats in a row, all by the one goal, Reds Boss John McDermott was left furious after his side squandered a 0-2 advantage at FC United on Tuesday night to lose 3-2, including conceding two in two minutes towards the end of the second half to lose the points.

Telford are in good home form and are currently unbeaten in their last three home fixtures, (W2, D1) but are winless in their last three in the league (L2, D1). It's a game where both sides need the points as we look to wrestle our form back and end a run of four defeats in a row.

Macca speaking on Telford after the FC defeat:

"It's huge, the lads owe a performance and they owe a shift. They have to bring it on Saturday. They owe the fans that, the fans that travelled up last night, I apologise for the performance and the manner at which we threw the game away, we went under like a pack of cards. The fans didn't deserve that after such a good first half."

"Again sorry to the fans for the performance, it needs addressing, we can't go under like that. It hurts to lose in that manner and Saturday we owe everyone at the club and that supports this club a performance."

Last season we met Telford in back to back fixtures over the Christmas period, our goal coming from Craig Westcarr in the 13th minute in a 1-1 draw on Boxing Day at the New Bucks Head.

The return fixture saw us come out on top, 3-2 on New Year's Day at the Impact Arena, with our goals coming from Shelton, Westcarr(pen) and Marshall.

Bill Draper informs us that perhaps the most memorable games against Telford  were the play-off semi-finals in 2008/09.

We lost 0-2 at Telford in the first leg ( att: 2,346 ) and in the return leg at the Impact Arena, quickly took a 2-0 lead through Anton Brown and Tony Butler, however Telford restored their advantage before Anthony Howell ( pen) and Paul Clayton gave us a 4-3 home win, but we lost 4-5 on aggregate ( Att : 2,244)

Supporter's Association transport to the game leaves the Impact Arena at 9.30am, anyone interested please call Mark Thorpe on 07857 558401.
