Read our report as the Reds earned a valuable win at Telford on Saturday

Alfreton Town recorded a rare but priceless win at the New Buck's Head on Saturday, a ground where they had just won once and had scored only three goals in a dozen previous visits.

lt brought to a halt a worrying run of four consecutive defeats for the Reds, thanks to first half goals from Craig Westcarr and Tom Allan before Telford pulled a goal back through Elliot Newby.

Much of the first 25 minutes of the game had seen the hosts unleash harmless shots from around the edge of the area that frankly posed more of a threat to light aircraft than Chris Elliott in the Alfreton goal.

Meanwhile some clinical moves by the Reds, particularly involving Bradley Wood and Cieron Keane, saw them push further and further forward into Telford territory, with Westcarr just failing to reach a Keane cross following a classy crossfield pass from Wood.

Westcarr though gave Alfreton a 27th minute lead with a deft chip over keeper Jasbir Singh, despite his close proximity to the six-yard box, after Disley had chipped the ball through to him in receipt of an Allan throw.

lt was barely five minutes later that the advantage was doubled when Allan leapt to head home a deep Daniels free-kick at the back post, despite Singh almost managing to keep the ball from closing the line.

Newby reduced the arrears for the home side in the 44th minute when he drilled the ball low from the edge of the area after a right flank cross had not been cleared.

Quite a bit of pressure needed to be soaked up during a second half that culminated in a last-ditch clearance by Wood from Max Leonard and a decisive double save by Elliott from Marcus Dinanga during an excessive seven minutes of added time.

Alfreton's clearest chance of the second half had seen Westcarr foiled by a block from Connor Johnson 12 minutes from time before Elliott managed to turn behind a stinging drive from Dinanga to keep the Reds on course for that vital win.

Injuries though to Sam Topliss and Billy Priestley will need to be monitored before Saturday's FA Trophy 3rd Qualifying Round tie against Northern Premier League leaders Altrincham at the lmpact Arena.
