Moor Green 2, ALFRETON TOWN 0

MANAGER Gary Mills kept his Alfreton Town players behind in the dressing room after Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Moor Green and laid into them for throwing away three points which, with a touch of discipline, may well have been theirs
Goals towards the end of the first half and shortly after the restart condemned the Reds to their second successive defeat following their recent successful run
An angry Mils fumed: “We had a bigger percentage of play and won more balls in their half, yet we conceded two goals that were totally down to us.
“We got the ball into their box on a number of occasions but never got anyone on the end, and that cost us the game.
“We haven’t played badly, we’ve played well in patches, but we’ve got to be more disciplined when the opposition are coming at us.
“They were two sloppy goals as far as I’m concerned and that is not acceptable.”
Alfreton made a promising opening and inside the first minute Tommy Hannigan fed Andy Tiday, but when the ball was worked to Mark Rawle the big striker was crowded out.
And when Emeka Nwadike received Nathan Winder’s through pass he was halted by Andrew Penny’s blocking tackle.
Dale Roberts was called into routine action for the first time in the seventh minute when he held Phil Trainer’s cross after the winger had got the better of Mark Barnard, but Roberts’ opposite number Daniel Lewis did well to hold Marcus Ebdon’s awkward ‘up and under’ from the edge of the area  shortly afterwards. Then it was unlucky 13th minute for the Reds skipper, whose 20-yard volley rattled a post.
Rawle was first to the rebound and crossed to Danny Mayman who headed over.
Ashley Burbeary saw a shot deflected for a corner following Barnard’s overlapping run and cross, before Roberts was called into more testing action, first holding Dale Anderson’s shot under pressure from Trainer, and then clutching Phil Midworth’s awkward centre at the second attempt, with Trainer again proving a nuisance.Rawle and Penny were both booked for an off-the-ball scuffle in the 25th minute, and there was relief for Alfreton when Winder survived hand-ball appeals from Darren Middleton’s ball into the box.
Alfreton should have taken the lead in the 33rd minute when Burbeary won a race for possession for Barnard’s long ball forward. He fed it to Mayman who set up Tiday, only for the well placed front man to screw his finish wide.
That miss was punished two minutes later when the Moors grabbed the lead. Trainer sliced open the Reds defence with an incisive ball straight down the middle, and Jason Moore slotted it past Roberts.
Alfreton began the second half looking to cancel out that strike, and Lewis did well to hold Burbeary’s free kick with Ryan Clarke homing in.
However, it was the home side who scored again four minutes in, when Moore drilled home David Morrison’s by-line pull back from 20 yards low into the corner.
Ebdon’s rasping 20-yarder was tipped over the bar, but at the other end Trainer was close to a third home goal, heading just over from Dale Anderson’s dazzling run and cross.Mayman went close for Alfreton with a 25-yard punt that just evaded the far post.
But Moore was denied his hat-trick in the 72nd minute by Roberts’ flying save.Alfreton pushed on in the final 15 minutes, gambling with four front men, but could not work an opening.
Tristram Whitman flashed a centre across goal but no-one managed the crucial touch, then the substitute could not manage any power onto Ebdon’s deep cross and gave Lewis an easy save. And the keeper finally held Matt Glass’ angled drive two minutes from time, after Danny Mayman had picked him out in the area.
