Wednesday night at the Impact Arena saw another useful pre-season workout for Alfreton Town, who held Notts County to a goal-less draw.
The enigmatic Lee Hughes was the catalyst for a lively first-half, but he was marshalled by Reds' skipper Darran Kempson as well as being thwarted by a brilliant save on 26 minutes from keeper Phil Barnes.
Barnes had denied Yoann Arquin three minutes earlier with a good save, then right at the end palmed over a stinging free-kick from Hamza Bencheriff.
Alfreton's best chances fell to Dan Bradley, whose eighth minute shot was blocked painfully by Haydn Hollis, then towards the end Anthony Wilson was scythed down right on the edge of the area with triallist no. 16 firing inches over from the free-kick
