Alfreton Town won their fourth pre-season game, and three out of three on the road, when they made the short trip to play Northern Premier League outfit Mickleover Sports on Tuesday night.
An early Sam Smith goal set the scene, with the hosts restricted to a handful of clear chances, further goals being added through Joe Leesley and Tom Allan.
A glancing Sam Berry header was just off target after six minutes, whilst Simeon Oshoboke's effort at the other end met a similar fate.
Niall Heaton's cross allowed Smith to side-foot the Reds into a ninth minute lead from close range, then former Alfreton keeper Ross Atkins held a deflected Andi Thanoj free-kick.
The visitors were 2-0 to the good by the 30th minute, Leesley hooking the ball over Atkins from ten yards after good work by Jamie Jackson.
Two minutes before the interval Reds' keeper Nick Draper parried an angled drive from Anthony Griffiths Junior, then a similar outcome befell Leesley moments later.
A downward header by Allan from Dan Bradley's free-kick secured the third Alfreton goal on the hour, then 15 minutes later Joe lronside's powerful header was blocked by Atkins amidst a crowded box from a Leesley corner.
Another good block by the keeper kept lronside out in the 90th minute, then in added time Nico Degirolamo headed fractionally wide from a deep free-kick.
It was good to see John McGrath playing once again, after injury had curtailed his time with Alfreton two seasons ago, his obvious skills clearly still an asset to Mickleover Sports.
