Alfreton Town were disappointingly pegged back on Tuesday night by a late, late equaliser at Worcester City's exiled home of Aggborough, which they currently share with Kidderminster Harriers.
The Reds had created numerous openings, particularly in the first half, before Sam Jones gave them a 71st minute lead, the top scorer firing home from just outside the area after Jordan Robertson had laid back a Lindon Meikle cross.
However, a goal from evergreen striker Lee Hughes brought Worcester a share in the spoils as the clock ticked into the fifth minute of added time with a glancing header from a corner finding the net, just after forcing keeper Matt Duke into a stretching near post save from another header.
The hosts were largely restricted to the odd chance, manager Nicky Law having opted to change the defence around following the home defeat to AFC Telford United seven days earlier, Joe Doyle taking over at right-back, Cliff Moyo moving to the heart of the back four to partner Todd Jordan and Niall Heaton shuffling to left-back.
Meanwhile, Cecil Nyoni regained his place in midfield with Tom Allan reverting to the bench, although the latter did play for the final quarter of the game after Moyo was injured in a goalmouth challenge.
Dan Bradley, Andi Thanoj and Jones all had efforts blocked in the opening eight minutes as the Reds emerged from the blocks with all cylinders firing, but City went closest in the 14th minute when Alex Gudger's header had to be cleared off the line from a corner.
Jones and Jordan Robertson were the next Alfreton players to have shots blocked, then home keeper Calum Kitscha pulled off a defiant save from close range as Meikle latched on to Bradley's 36th minute delivery.
Doyle gave Jones the opportunity to turn and drive a shot just past the back post, Heaton headed over from a Thanoj corner and Thanoj went despairingly close with a free-kick after Bradley had been scythed down in full flight, the first half ending with Duke saving from Jordan Murphy after Heaton had been caught dawdling on the ball.
Duke saved an angled drive from Dan Nti four minutes after the break, then in response Robertson hoisted the ball over the bar from 12 yards from Meikle's tee-up, that move followed by Bradley chipping over after a promising central run.
The only noteworthy event between the two goals was an 83rd minute goalmouth scramble that Alfreton survived, thanks to another good save by Duke from Hughes before the latter was flagged offside.
