Alfreton Town suffered their seventh away Skrill Premier defeat from nine outings when Tamworth were victorious by a solitary 23rd minute Nick Chadwick goal.
Unchanged for the fourth successive game the Reds tried hard without success, although they did not start competing until they had gone behind after a scrappy opening quarter that had seen neither side produce a chance.
On the plus side there was the opportunity for Paul Clayton to play the final 20 minutes after a lengthy spell off through injury, while there was also a cameo appearance by Alastair Taylor after a loan spell at Gainsborough Trinity.
The goal stemmed from a Tony Capaldi free-kick that Reds' keeper Ross Atkins could not hold, leaving Chadwick with a simple tap-in, but immediately after the restart Alfreton launched their first attack of note with Job Ayo Akinde's shot looping up off Capaldi to be gathered comfortably by home keeper Cameron Belford.
Justin Richards then flashed a cross through Alfreton's goalmouth with no-one able to make contact, then Chris Westwood's shot from a Josh Law corner was parried by Belford before Tom Shaw fired wide.
Jake Speight had three clear chances in the final ten minutes of the first half, the first seeing him shoot over from the edge of the area from Akinde's tee-up, then probably the best opportunity of the game when Bradley Wood played him through.
With just Belford to beat though Speight was well off target, but the striker did manage to go much closer with yet another chance as Alfreton doggedly pushed for an equaliser.
Shaw missed again after Akinde had held up a deep Wood cross, then the midfielder almost atoned with a stinging drive that Belford needed to fist firmly away, but Shaw was wayward again in the 62nd minute from another Wood delivery.
A deep cross from sub Daniel Meadows was palmed on to the angle of crossbar and upright by the keeper with 20 minutes remaining, then following a goalmouth scramble at the other end it was Ben Richards-Everton's turn to be denied by the foot of the post.
Wood then saw a header cleared off the line from Law's 77th minute corner, before a sloppy pass from Lathaniel Rowe-Turner let Lloyd Kerry in with Atkins parrying the shot.
Shaw was off target again from a Speight lay-off, Richards could only find the side-netting after a central run for Tamworth, then at the conclusion of added time Meadows was inches over the bar with a volley from Wood's long throw.
