Alfreton Town's worrying trend continued on Tuesday night, with now just a solitary point to show from their last six Vanarama National League North games.
Liam King's 14th minute free-kick, after Joe Leesley had brought down Danny Emerton on the edge of the area, was smashed directly into the net to give fifth-placed North Ferriby United a 1-0 lead which they neither looked like adding to nor relinquishing.
It had been all of 38 days and five successive away games since the Reds, resplendent in their special UN1TUS-created commemorative Remembrance Day poppy strip, had set foot on home territory, but their eagerly awaited return turned out to be a bit of an anti-climax.
Andi Thanoj returned to the side, with Joe lronside reverting to the bench, but there was little initiative evident to break down a well-organised defence that had lost only two League games all season, former Reds' striker Tom Denton regularly helping out at the back to counteract Niall Heaton's long throws with his imposing height.
There was though a particularly good move instigated by Cliff Moyo mid-way through the first half, which allowed Jordan Robertson to feed Thanoj, but the end result was a wayward shot from the midfielder.
United keeper Tom Nicholson almost dropped the ball at Sam Jones' feet from John Johnston's through-ball in the 31st minute, Jones then went close on two further occasions and the half ended with Danny Clarke's angled drive having to be saved by Matt Duke.
Jones embarked on a strong central run six minutes after the break but fired wide, then a disappointing Robertson free-kick from a prime position failed to test the keeper.
Denton glanced a header over from a driven Mark Grey cross, then Jones went close again from a Thanoj delivery following Johnston's quickly taken 60th minute corner.
Robertson and Jones just failed to make contact with an inviting Leesley cross that Nicholson comfortably fielded, then Moyo's deep pass gave the Reds a glimmer of hope when Grey inadvertently sent Johnston to the bye-line, but his tricky run fizzled out when confronted by the keeper.
With 12 minutes remaining Emerton unleashed a hopeful shot from distance that bounced off the top of Duke's crossbar, then in a flurry of added time activity Tom Allan, Jamie Jackson and lronside all went close as Alfreton deperately sought an equaliser.
