ALFRETON Town scored five goals for the first time in a Blue Square Bet Premier game when they went nap at home to Tamworth on Boxing Day.

It was also a fourth successive win in League and FATrophy games at the Impact Arena in front of a decent festive crowd, although the Lambs would undoubtedly have had the forthcoming lucrative trip to Goodison Park at the back of their minds.

Three vital points have allowed Alfreton to overtake Stockport County and draw level on 21 points with Hayes & Yeading in the relegation zone, and they now have their sights set firmly on 19th and 20th placed Newport County and Kettering Town who are both on 22 points.

Just 11 seconds had elapsed when Anton Brown ran on to Josh Law's pass to score from 12 yards, and by the time two-and-a-half minutes had ticked by, Alfreton were 2-0 to the good with Nathan Arnold finishing off a Jake Moult pass from ten yards.

Tamworth drew breath and tried to make some inroads, but Kyle Patterson's 11th minute header deflected off Greg Young for a corner which Reds' keeper Joe Day gathered under pressure.

A looping header from Patterson was held virtually on the goalline by Day, but Alfreton almost scored a third on 19 minutes as the result of a slick move, Moult's run down the right helped on by Arnold but Anthony Wilson just could not force the ball home as he was challenged by Richard Tait.

Scott Barrow was next to go close for the visitors on the half-hour mark from the edge of the area, but the Reds coasted into a 3-0 lead with 36 minutes on the clock, when Law's pass allowed Moult to pick his spot from eight yards with an abundance of time and space.

Two minutes later Jarman's low drive was held by Tamworth keeper Jonathan Hedge, and a similar move at the other end in first half added time culminated in Day saving from Patterson.

Adam Quinn managed to block a shot from McDonald four minutes after the interval, then almost immediately sub Danny Mills had a golden opportunity to reduce the deficit when a left-wing cross left him heads-up with Day, who easily saved his weak volley.

McDonald's 52nd minute drive was inadvertently blocked by his colleague Patterson, and three minutes later Alfreton notched their fourth goal when Anthony Wilson bundled Arnold's astute cross past Hedge at the near post.

A stooping header from Matt Wilson at the back post from a Law free-kick flashed agonisingly close to the target, but the fifth goal duly arrived in the 66th minute after Arnold had dispossessed Patrick Kanyuka wide right.

An electrifying run by Arnold along the by-line saw him fire across Hedge, with the ball striking the inside of the far post before sitting up nicely for the supporting Jarman to tap in and become the fifth different scorer of the afternoon.

Ironically despite some clinical finishes on the Reds' behalf the two late goals by Tamworth were by far the most spectacular, with McDonald firing home a swerving free-kick in the 78th minute.

Then four minutes from time a cracking volley by Tait from 25 yards gathered pace and curled inside Day's right-hand post, before Jarman concluded the action deep into stoppage time with a powerful drive that Hedge held.
