As with the first pre-season friendly four days previous, Alfreton Town showed well until being undone by a brace of late goals in a short space of time as they fell to a 3-1 home defeat against a Burton Albion XI under the stewardship of Gary Rowett.
However, overall, this was another good run-out for the Reds who made nine changes at half-time and featured three more trialists.
Both sides began well but it took a tremendous tackle by Matt Wilson to rob Chris Palmer deep inside the home area to shut out Burton's first serious raid.
Kieman Mason-Hughes then squandered a good chance when he broke the offside trap down Alfreton's left but with just Dan Lowson to beat, he tamely dragged his shot into the side netting on eight minutes.
Two good runs from trialist Jamie Mullan down the right saw the second one end with him getting the ball inside to Paul Clayton who teed up another trialist, Chris Carruthers for a shot which flew just wide.
Both sides moved the ball around nicely and on 23 minutes a driven cross from Josh Law on the right ended with Clayton getting his head to it but the ball glanced away past the target.
With Greg Young and Matt Wilson in dominant form at the back the Reds had few scares on their goal although both sides did create another couple of half-chances before the interval.
Chris Palmer slashed a shot wide after Matt wilson and Dan Lowson failed to communicate to a huge high ball down the middle and in the next Burton raid a slide rule pass from Palmer across the area fell for Kieman Mason-Hughes but his shot was very well saved by the feet of Dan Lowson.
Paul Clayton almost broke through before being brought down on the edge of the area by Nathan Stanton but Josh Law curled the resultant free-kick well over.
Clayton then fed Chris Senior but Stanton got in to concede a corner from which a superbly flighted ball from Carruthers picked out Clayton but his header flew straight at Ross Atkins in the visiting goal.
Adam Bolder flicked a header over from a Palmer corner before a well-contested half drew to a close after Matt Richards broke through middle to fire in a strong shot which flew just over the top.

Alfreton manager Nicky Law made nine changes at the interval, only Josh Law and Jamie Mullen surviving.
The Reds began the second half with a flurry of neat inter-passing involving Nathan Arnold and Nathan Jarman in particular.
After three successive corners with Adie Hawes twice seeing headers deflected over, Jarman went close, volleying narrowly over after Atkins had superbly saved from a Josh Law shot at close quarters after Mullen had done well and pulled the ball back.
Jarman fired Alfreton into a 62nd minute lead when he netted a right footed angled volley which beat the diving keeper and went in off the far post. The move had all been started though by a tremendous crossfield ball from Arnold.
The advantage lasted just two minutes as Kieman Mason-Hughes easily swept in the equaliser at the far post as he finished a superb cross from Greg Pearson from the right which carved open the home defence. Alfreton were left feeling aggrieved waiting for a free-kick which never came for a foul on Adie Hawes by Pearson in the build up.
The second half was certainly a more open affair and the Reds had more cause for complaint when the match official ignored what looked a blatant hand-ball offence by Ryan Austin as he stopped Nathan Arnold from breaking through deep in the penalty area.
At the other end Jaques Maghoma jinked his way into the area but saw h is low left-footed shot well saved by trialist keeper Zak Jones.
The warning signs came a few minutes before two goals in four minutes took the game away from Alfreton with substitute Jevon Seaton stroking home a left wing cross into the far corner past second half trialist home keeper Zak Jones on 75 minutes.
Prior to that a great ball in from the right by Jake Moult just eluded Hawes at the far post. And Hawes was involved again when he slipped and let in Mason-Hughes to cross for Greg Pearson who had his shot blocked at close range for a corner by Leigh Franks.
The Reds twice went close before the Brewers wrapped up victory on 79 minutes when Kieman Mason-Hughes netted with a well-taken shot into the top right corner from 14 yards.
Within a minute Jones prevented a fourth with a great diving save from Pearson as the pace of the Burton front runners caused the Reds problems.
In reply, Mullen's pace saw him able to cut in from the left but his firm low shot flew into the arms of the Burton keeper who was then beaten by a deft clipped shot from Arnold after he had been set up by Jarman ,but unluckily for Alfreton, the ball dropped just over the bar as well.
