Alfreton Town 1-1 Boston United

FT: Alfreton Town 1    1 Boston United

01 January 2019

Nathan Hotte's stoppage time header salvaged a point for the Reds, in a game of few clear cut openings against Boston United on New Years Day at the Impact Arena.

Billy Heath made two changes for the first game of 2019 with Nathan Hotte and David Lynch both returning to the line up.

Alfreton were once again stung by yet another early goal, as a cross from right touchline found Nicky Walker unmarked in the box and he finished at Sam Ramsbottom's near post to give us the worst possible start once again.

Richard Peniket looked to respond as he flicked on James Clifton's throw but it was well blocked by Willis.

Adam Curry timed his movements well to prevent a Boston attack showing composure to guide the ball back to Ramsbottom, before the Pilgrims cleared off the line from Peniket's header, the resulting corner was cleared.

Sam then saved well to deny Rollins in the box at the near post, Willis then denied Tom Platt's long range effort which Peniket couldn't quite capitalise on the rebound.

The game was getting fiesty with several rough challenges coming in, the first on Curtis Bateson which saw the game continue and then from Platt which enraged the Boston bench.

We huffed and puffed towards the end of the first half as Luke Shiels was caught offside trying to convert Reece Styche's dinked pass.

Styche was then brought down on the edge of the box after an excellent turn, Clifton could only strike the effort over the bar.

The second half was scrappy with both sides unable to really control the ball or generate a clear cut chance since the early Boston opener.

Several balls into the Pilgrims box were cleared before Peniket again had a sighter but headed the ball over from Clifton's cross.

Curry stayed alert at the other end clearing a Boston free kick, Styche then fired wide of the post from the edge of the box, minutes later another effort from the Reds forward went wide.

Alfreton were lucky to not fall two behind as a through ball forward saw a coming together between Ramsbottom and the Boston player which in turn saw Walker slot home but the offside flag went up and the Reds survived.

The Reds had a big chance on 76 minutes after consecutive crosses that were cleared, Bateson whipped one via a deflection and Peniket reacted but could only head over the bar.

With an equaliser looking unlikely and another home defeat by a single goal edging closer, Alfreton found a leveller in the 92 minute as Jordan Sinnott's corner was glanced home by Nathan Hotte at the near post for a crucial equaliser.

The visitors looked to snatch it as a cross from the left saw Allott go down in the box after contesting a header with Adam Curry, the penalty claims were waved away by the Referee.

Alfreton settled for the point which they rescued in the end and will look to build on the performance and result as we make our first away trip of 2019 with a visit to Blyth Spartans on Saturday, kick off is 3pm.
