Alfreton Town 0-1 Bradford Park Avenue

FT: Alfreton Town 0    1 Bradford Park Avenue

29 September 2018

Alfreton Town slipped to ninth spot with their third straight defeat in the National League North on Saturday, which was also their fourth home defeat to Bradford [Park Avenue] in as many seasons.

Once again, as in two of those previous reversals, it was a solitary goal that sent the points back to West Yorkshire, this time a powerful header by Conor Branson from a Nicky Wroe corner with 71 minutes elapsed.

Alfreton were frustrated throughout by a well-organised Bradford defence, limited to chances from Declan Bacon, Richard Peniket and Jordan Sinnott that were all inches wide of the target in the first half.

There was a questionable tackle by visiting keeper Steven Drench on Curtis Bateson in the 12th minute that went unpunished, but the Reds never really posed a dangerous threat, other than Nathan Hotte's effort from a 42nd minute corner that looped up off a defender and landed on the roof of the net.

Meanwhile the only significant chance that Avenue created in the opening session was a hook over by Shane Killock from Wroe's 25th minute free-kick.

Callum Chettle's foray to the bye-line after dispossessing Branson eight minutes into the second half saw Bobby Johnson have a shot blocked before Peniket fired wide, then on 62 minutes another strong run by Chettle led to his angled drive being turned behind by Drench.

Bradford resisted any fightback in full control of the remaining minutes after snatching the lead, Hotte firing high and wide from distance whilst James Clifton's intuitive effort was repelled by the keeper two minutes into added time.
