Alfreton Town 3-0 Buxton

FT: Alfreton Town 3    0 Buxton

17 July 2018

Alfreton Town's latest pre-season friendly saw Buxton FC comfortably beaten 3-0 at the lmpact Arena on Tuesday night.

The Reds found themselves two goals ahead by the 11th minute, largely thanks to the visitors' inexperienced un-named trialist keeper, who was caught out of position for Craig King's sublime opener from wide right and not tuned in to Greg Young's wavelengths when the former Alfreton defender's pass back was allowed to roll all the way into the net from 20 yards.

Buxton recovered their composure well enough to force Tom Nicholson into a near post save from Gary Gee, then as the first half progressed both Richard Peniket and goalscorer King embarked on promising runs before dragging their final efforts wide.

Just three minutes after the break Buxton squandered a gilt-edged opportunity when Callum Chippendale miscued in front of goal from an inviting right-wing cross, then in response the lively Curtis Bateson saw a shot scrambled off the line from a corner.

Peniket then saw a stifled shot saved by Buxton's replacement keeper from Danny Clarke's pass, the latter than smashing the ball against the crossbar from 20 yards on 64 minutes.

Callum Chettle was then denied by the keeper following a good run by Bateson, but Buxton were unfortunate not to reduce the arrears when Andy McWilliams' superbly struck free-kick came back off the frame of the goal with 11 minutes remaining.

Bateson rounded off a fine performance two minutes later by slotting the ball home after another dazzling run. the game ending with saves at either end from Bobby Johnson and Chippendale respectively.
