Alfreton Town 1-3 Bradford Park Avenue

FT: Alfreton Town 1    3 Bradford Park Avenue

02 December 2017

There was further misery for Alfreton Town supporters on Saturday when Bradford P[ark Avenue triumphed 3-1 at the lmpact Arena, despite the Reds holding an interval advantage, consigning them to a fifth straight home defeat.

Manager John McDermott gave debuts to defenders Alex Cover and Ben Clappison, as well as striker Marcus Day, as the changes were rung following the abject home defeat to Altrincham in the F.A.Trophy seven days earlier - key central defender Luke Shiels was serving a one-match ban for an accumulation of bookings, whilst Billy Priestley was still recovering from a recurring injury.

Commendably all three newcomers were involved in the build-up to Alfreton's 24th minute goal, with Day's cross diverted into the net by Tom Platt, although there was a suspicion that Bradford defender Mark Ross had the final touch.

The visitors went close through Nicky Clee, whose 33rd minute shot was cleared off the line by Bradley Wood before his follow-up rebounded off the upright.

However the second half saw Park Avenue sweep aside the Reds with ease, Adam Boyes levelling matters just two minutes after the break when being sent free to finish clinically, the move ironically stemming from a curling Brendon Daniels free-kick that keeper Steve Drench had caught.

Shane Killock put Bradford ahead on the hour with a free back-post header from a Nicky Wroe corner, the match being sewn up by the 68th minute when a right-wing cross was not dealt with and Oli Johnson obliged from close range.

Alfreton's first half opportunities had seen Craig Westcarr's angled drive blocked by Killock and Ceiron Keane's inviting cross swept behind by Luca Havern, but their only clear chance after the break had fallen to Day, whose low drive when well placed was easily gathered by Drench in the 49th minute
