A late, late goal in normal time, rescued, Alfreton Town from FA Trophy elimination in Wednesday night's 3rd Qualifying Round, Replay, at the Impact Arena. The Reds then cruised to a 4-1 win, in extra time to earn a home tie with the 2015 winners, North Ferriby United, on Saturday December the 10th.
It was a superbly struck free kick from Craig Westcarr, that saved the day in the 88th minute, the Red's sub, curling the ball over the wall and into the net via the underside of the cross bar, beating former Red's keeper, George Willis.
Alfreton had trailed from the 38th minute, when a sloppy back-pass had been latched onto by Jordan Thewlis, who went on the take the ball round Fabian Speiss, before slotting into an empty net. This was Trinity's first goal in five games.
Extra time saw the Reds absorb some early pressure, before a second corner in succession, saw the Reds take a 103rd minute when Paul Clayton bundled the ball in at the far post.
Seven minutes later, Clayton struck again, after good work on the bye-line by Liam Hearn. His shot was partially saved by Willis, with the ball finding it's way to the far post where it was headed home by the striker.
Trinity keeper, Willis unfortunately, dislocated a finger in the process and had to be replaced in goal by former Red's favourite, Matt Wilson. Trinity were now down to ten men having used all three of their substitutes.
From that point, there could be little doubt that Alfreton would ease through the remainder of the tie and Westcarr's 119th minute strike from 15 yards, was icing on the cake.
