Alfreton Town began their pre-season schedule with a good work out against a Barnsley side that was strengthened after the interval.
In fact the Yorkshiremen use no less than 23 players, while the Reds lagged behind with a mere 21 during the course of the 90 minutes, of which six were unnamed triallists.
Anton Brown, who was beginning his seventh season at the Impact Arena, was the only player from either side who survived the whole game.
But far from causing mass disruption with 18 changes at half-time the game livened up considerably with all three goals scored after the break.
Former Chesterfield striker Craig Davies grabbed a brace on 55 and 61 minutes to give Barnsley a two-goal lead, while one of the triallists pulled Alfreton a goal back with 20 minutes left on the clock.
Mido was one of the more readily recognised names in the visitors' starting line-up, but he made a complete hash of a superb pass from Matthew Done in the 24th minute by blazing high over unmarked from ten yards.
Five minutes later Alfreton were almost gifted the lead when Jim McNulty's back-pass saw Barnsley keeper Ben Alnwick miss the ball with his attempted clearance, but he had ample time to recover and prevent the ball from creeping over the line.
Dan Bradley squandered a good opportunity in the 39th minute when teed up by Paul Clayton, with a similar result that had seen Mido frustrated earlier.
Scott Golbourne's run down the left allowed Davis to steer the ball past Reds' keeper Phil Barnes from close range for the opening goal, then six minutes later Davis squeezed in a Jacob Mellis pass from a tight angle.
Alfreton's goal was a well-taken stooping header from six yards and was a good flowing move involving three of the unnamed triallists.
