ALFRETON TOWN 3, Gainsborough Trinity 1

Report by Kev Miles. Pics by Phil Lucic.

ALFRETON Town's third straight home league victory saw them take their unbeaten Conference North run to six games as they comfortably saw off a Trinity side now without a win in eight games on the road this season.
The Reds had just one change with Kyle McFadzean returning after recovering from a bout of tonsillitis. His inclusion meant a return to the bench for Laurie Wilson with Tommy Hannigan again the odd man out.
There was an early chance for both sides with Gainsborough failing to clear Josh Law's right flank cross and Danny Reet could only shoot straight at Adam Sollitt in the visiting goal on five minutes.
A minute later Jamie Smith had chance for Trinity. He got round Kyle McFadzean but his chip past onrushing home keeper Kyle Sutcliffe from the left hand angle of the penalty area lacked power and direction and Anton Brown got back to clear.
Trinity centre back Richard Pell wrestled Peter Knox to the floor and from the free kick, Law's ball in was headed behind for the first corner of the game which was unproductive.
Reet produced a lovely turn but saw his shot blocked for another corner and after a third one was won on 12 minutes, Alfreton forged ahead as Kris Bowler's flag kick from the right carried through the penalty area to DANNY REET whose 12-yard shot took a slight deflection on it's way past Adam Sollitt in the visiting goal.
A minute later Jamie Smith shot a yard wide after latching onto a long clearance from his keeper Sollitt.
Smith was then booked for a bad challenge on McFadzean before the Gainsborough front runner was sent in by strike partner Paul Clayton but Alfreton's Matt Wilson got back to force him wide and he could only shoot straight into Sutcliffe's arms.
Alfreton doubled the lead in fine style on 23 minutes when REET sped away down the left after collecting a stray crossfield pass by Jamie Smith. The Reds striker turned Wes Parker inside out before firing home a low 16-yard left foot shot across Sollitt into the far corner for a superb goal.
As driving rain began to fall, Lewis McMahon became the second visiting player into the book for a foul on Kris Bowler.
Gainsborough finally began to get a something of a foothold in the game but all their attacking efforts foundered on a rock-like home defence and it was a rare piece of action for Sutcliffe when he easily saved an 18-yard Nick Ellis flick towards goal from a Liam Needham long throw.
A sweeping Reds move involving Cusworth, Knox and Reet was spoiled by Knox's wayward left wing cross.
It took Trinity 40 minutes to win their first corner but McMahon over-hit the cross to the far post and four minutes later Danny Anson's header from Needham's cross dropped tamely wide.
With a hat-trick in sight, Reet smacked a 30-yarder straight at Sollitt before the half ended in controversy. Anton Brown lost possession in the left back berth and Reds keeper Sutcliffe was forced to bring down Trinity's Chris Hall just outside the right-hand angle of the penalty area.
Sutcliffe was booked for the foul which was just about right as he wasn't the last man and Hall wasn't in a goalscoring position. From the free-kick Wes Parker put his header over the top.
As Gainsborough came out to try and cut the deficit they enjoyed their best spell of the game both for a good 15 minutes but despite the visitors enjoying more possession they carried little threat despite Nick Ellis and Pell putting headers over the top.
The Reds responded again and from a Law free-kick Pell cleared for a corner with the latter completing the clearance.
On 62 minutes the Reds wrapped up the victory. Law's sublime flick inside set Peter Knox away and after advancing past Liam Needham he crossed for BRIAN CUSWORTH to steer in his eighth goal of the season from close range for 3-0.
Trinity manager Paul Mitchell rang the changes with three substitutes introduced over an eight minute spell but the third goal had taken the wind out of their sails.
Peter Knox made way for Matt Glass on 73 minutes but it was ten minutes further on before another chance arrived when Law provided a lovely cross from the right and Cusworth sent a stooping header just past the far post.
Trinity got a 90th minute consolation when substitute RYAN MALLON chipped over the advancing Sutcliffe in a one-on-one situation after latching onto Sollitt's long clearance which was flicked on by Allott.
Josh Law was booked for a foul on Liam Needham who followed him into the book for retaliation and tempers continued to fray in the dying embers with Gainsborough's former Red Danny Anson shown a red card three minutes into added time for lashing out at Danny Reet to complete a miserable day for Trinity.
