Position: Central defender/utility
Squad number: 6
Date of birth: March 10th, 1987
Joined Alfreton Town: September, 2007
Dependably consistent and versatile defender who can play anywhere across the back four but also in a midfield holding role. Now in his fifth season with the Reds, he played a huge part in Alfreton's 2010/11 Blue Square Bet North title-winning side.
Signed for Alfreton on the opening day of the 2007/08 campaign having proved his abilities in pre-season games. Very good in the air and comfortable on the ball with both feet.
Matt was signed as a schoolboy by Darlington, originally as a striker. Played at the old Wembley at the age of 13 before the Division Two play off final between Darlington and Peterborough United. He was released from Darlington aged 16 and then played for Redcar-based Mackinlay Park in the Jack Hatfield League. Captained the Sheffield Hallam University first team before moving on to Dinnington Town. Played the last ten games of the 2006/07 campaign at Grantham Town.
