Player Profiles 2017/18 - Mason Springthorpe

The Reds signed goalkeeper Mason Springthorpe from Southport on a one year deal in June 2017.

Springthorpe started in Shrewsbury Town's Youth system and in February 2011 secured a £125,000 move to Everton. He was included in the Toffees matchday squad in March 2013, when Everton beat Reading 2-1 at Goodison Park. Further unused substitute appearances followed against Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup and in the Premier League against Manchester City.

He weas then loaned to Woking in January 2014 and made his debut against Chester. Five days later he made his second appearance in a 2-2 draw against Lincoln City.

In May 2014, Springthorpe who had beed a regular in Everton's Under 21 team, was released by manager Roberto Martinez. He returned to his native Shropshire, signing for Ellesmere Rangers. In January 2015 he signed for League One Fleetwood Town making just one appearance. This was followed by loan moves to FC Telford United and Northwich Victoria where he eventually signed a permanent contract.

Mason then moved to Southport making two appearances.
